Punjab IG orders speeding up pace of projects meant for public facilities

Inspector General of Police Punjab Shoaib Dastgir said that all ongoing projects meant for public facilities and change in thana culture initiated by Punjab Police in all districts should be completed within given timeframe, especially the follow up of summaries of new projects and for acquisition of resources sent to Punjab government should be taken whereas summaries to finance and other departments should get finalised with personal interest and attention of officers. He further said that the safe city Lahore based projects of Integrated command, control and communication system which are under construction in big cities of the province like Rawalpindi, Multan, Faisalabad, Gujranwala and Sargodha should be speeded up so that with use of modern technology based modern policing should be imparted for protection of lives and properties of people. He further said that close supervision and monitoring are mandatory for completion of any project therefore all officers should launch new projects by keeping within the limit of available resources for change in thana culture, betterment of the force and improving public service delivery and also their working should be made more effective in the light of feedback from public. He further said that internal accountability branch should ensure standard inspection of Police offices, lines and police stations and also directed all DPOs and SPs to furnish the inspection report of their under control police stations to Central police office regularly. He further added that mutual trust between police and public cannot be ensured without improving public service delivery system so all officers should allocate specific time for hearing of public issues by adopting open door policy and also ask directly the public about behaviour and performance of police teams. He moreover said that monitoring system of entry and exit check posts and locks up with police stations should be made more effective whereas zero tolerance policy should be adopted in actions against those who were found guilty of misbehaving with the citizens during the checking. These views were expressed by him today, when he was chairing a meeting regarding development projects of police, upgradation of available resources and departments issues. In the meeting while directing the officers, IG Punjab said that the complaints received by IGP complaint cell 8787 should be resolved within possible minimum time and follow up should be ensured for all the complaints received by calls, SMS, emails and open court etc. He added that working and public service delivery of Police stations should be made more effective whereas the officers and officials deputed over check posts should deal public with positive and courteous behaviour. He moreover said that timing and plan of Dolphin, Peru and other patrolling forces on roads should be reconstituted and an effective crackdown should be taken against criminals in all districts besides conducting intelligence based, search, sweep and combing operations in sensitive places on daily basis. Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police Punjab Shoaib Dastgir said that Punjab Police is committed to ensuring protection of foreign citizens, experts and investors by day and night and in this regard Special Protection Unit has been imparted extraordinary training and modern facilities so that security of foreigners must be ensured in accordance with modern security measures. He further said that Tourist Police is also offering duties in order to provide guidance, protection and help to foreigner tourists resulting in fruitful benefits whereas CTD has already kept on continuing intelligence based operations against terrorists and their facilitators across the province. These views were expressed by him during his meeting with three member delegation led by American Consul General Catherine Rodriguez. The delegation included senior security Attaché Mathew Kupec and security officer Afzaal Arif. During the meeting, security situation along with other issues of mutual interest were discussed. IG Punjab told the delegation about modern IT projects initiated by Punjab Police and further explained that, Punjab Police is especially giving attention to public service delivery besides protection of lives and properties of the citizens. On this occasion, American Consul General acknowledged Punjab Police efforts for taking steps regarding public facilitations and security and said that timely action of Punjab Police and sacrifices in war against terrorism are plausible and the effective use of modern technology in providing facilities and crime fighting by Punjab Police are rightfully up to the mark of modern parameters. American Consul General also expressed satisfaction and pleasure for security arrangements of US consulate at Lahore and also thanked IG Punjab. In the end of the meeting, memorial souvenirs were exchanged between IG Punjab and American Consul General.
